Source/ Courtesy: indiainfoline/ Mumbai:  Cable TV operators and DTH service providers have opposed a move by the telecom regulator TRAI to introduce interoperability of set-top boxes (STBs), reports a business daily.

Cable TV operators and DTH service providers have opposed a move by the telecom regulator TRAI to introduce interoperability of set-top boxes (STBs), reports a business daily.
Interoperability allows users to change TV service providers without having to change their STB or dish antennae.
This is similar to the number portability introduced in mobile services.
DTH players say it is not feasible to introduce interoperability.
"No operator is making money by selling boxes, neither is the selling of boxes their core business. In fact, large part of their loss/risk is due to the fact that the operator has to subsidise the STB to be able to acquire the customer in the environment of hyper competition between various forms of TV distribution options available to the consumers,” says Reliance Digital TV.

STAR Utsav Movies Hindi language Movie 24x7 FTA satellite TV channel  launched and added on DD Freedish DTH

Star Utsav is the Free-to-air Hindi GEC brand of STAR India Pvt Ltd. Now company launched brand new Hindi movie channel under "Star Utsav" brand - STAR UTSAV Movies.

Star Utsav Movies channel is a mix of old and new hit movies. Earlier this channel was going to launch with name of STAR Gold Romance.

So now STAR India Pvt Ltd. has four Hindi movies channels included "STAR Gold, Movies OK, STAR Gold HD and Star Utsav Movies.

Recently rishtey Cineplex is under FTA GEC which has launched by Viacom18 network and both channels (STAR Utsav Movies and Rishtey Cineplex) are available on DDFreedish DTH.

Channel (V) India going to revamp from 1st July

Channel V (styled Channel [V]) is the brand name for multiple international music television networks owned by STAR TV and Fox International Channels, fully owned subsidiaries of 21st Century Fox. On July 1, 2012, the channel discontinued music programming and started focussing on original content through fiction dailies and studio formats that address youth issues.

Sony Television Network (Multi Screen Media Private LTD), going to launch two brand new TV channels "Sony Wah"& "Sony Rox". Recently both channels got license from Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).
Here is list of all new channels which has got license from MIB.

Sony Wah is 24X7 Hindi movie satellite channels. Sony Wah already started its TEST Feed from Asiasat 7 satellite.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) authority on Wednesday reviewed recommendations by the committee comprising of PEMRA officers regarding DTH (direct to home) licensing in the country.

The authority met with the PEMRA Chairman Absar Alam in the chair who was briefed about the outcome of public consultation process initiated by PEMRA on the DTH licensing on certain issues.

While pondering upon DTH licensing regime in Pakistan, the authority expressed grave concern over the menace of illegal DTH being sold in the country and recommended immediate crackdown on it.

It was decided that a comprehensive policy would be devised with Ministry of Interior and Federal Board of Revenue to make the DTH project a success.

The authority also showed serious concern over various re-enactment programmes being aired on several news channels, showing scenes of murder, burglary, suicide etc. It also noticed the emerging trend of broadcasting images of rape victims without censorship and disclosing identity of their relatives, violating privacy of individuals and their family.

The authority further directed PEMRA to take strict action against channels airing such tickers, news, footages and images, in accordance with the law.

This is very good news of this month that Zee News now turns in to freetoair news channel. Recently circular resolution passed on 6th May 2016 by the Board of Directors of Zee Media for migrate Zee News from pay tv channel to FTA channel.
Zee News has highly rated primetime show "DNA" and "Taal Thok ke", now these shows get more exposure in rural market.

Times Network group launched its fourth English movies channel. This channel will be available in standard (SD) & High definition (HD).

Movies Now2 channel is a joint venture with Vice media, which is showing Hollywood movies to target youth audiences in India.

Zee Yuva new Marathi channel for youth coming soon by ZEEL in August 2016

DTHNews Blog/ Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) going to be launch a brand new regional TV channel for youth, "ZEE Yuva". Zee Yuva set to launch in august 2016 for Marathi language viewers, targets youth aged between 18 to 35 years.

Zee Yuva channel will be launch in standard definition (SD) and later plan to launch in high definition (HD). Zee Yuva Marathi channel coming its new tagline 'Nave Parva..Yuva Sarva!'.

After Delhi, Assam hike entertainment tax on DTH & Cable TV

Now watching Pay TV channels in Assam now become very expensive because after Delhi, now Assam state raised entertainment tax on DTH connections by 20%, and on cable TV entertainment tax increased jumped to 100%. Last year in Delhi, AAP government increased entertainment tax on DTH / cable TV connections.

So if you have private DTH connection; TATA Sky, Dish TV, Airtel Digital TV, Reliance Digital TV, Sun Direct and Videocon D2H then you have to pay 20% extra entertainment tax than other states excluding Delhi. Also if you have cable TV; Siti cable, Manthan or other cable TV services then you have to pay 100% extra entertainment tax.

Entertainment tax revised for DTH connection from Rs.25 to Rs.30 per subscriber, that is 20% extra tax and  for cable TV services entertainment tax revised from Rs.10 to Rs.20 per subscriber which is 100% extra tax.

In Hotels will continue to pay same Rs.50 per subscriber to show cable and DTH TV channels.

32 Education channels coming soon before September 2016 to enhance #TransformingIndia. All channels will be available on DD Freedish DTH.

Today Mr. Prakash Javadekar informed via official twitter handle that before September 2016, HR ministry going to be launch 32 education channels to enhance project of #TransformingIndia by Indian government.

Punjabi University allotted independent DTH channel

Source/courtesy: Tribune News Service Patiala, July 25 : The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) of Punjabi University, Patiala, has added another feather to its cap with the HRD Ministry allotting to it an independent direct to home (DTH) channel with a view to make subject-wise e-content in various languages over the DTH platform.

While disclosing this, EMRC Director and channel coordinator Prof Gurmeet Maan said the activity had the potential to revolutionise the education delivery across the country in a highly cost-effective manner. “For the learners, the service will be free. These channels will also enable the sharing of lectures of outstanding teachers across the country,” he said.

He said Punjabi University centre was one of the 24 centres in the country selected for the project. The UGC-task force committee, under the chairmanship of Prof Rajbir Singh, Director of the Consortium of Educational Communication (CEC), took the decision of the allotment of the DTH channel to the Patiala varsity after reviewing the performance of the centre.

TATA Sky is the India's premium DTH provider, now to going to remove its four TV channels from its platform.

The TV channels to be removed are Sahara One, Sahara Filmy, Ahsas & Insync.

TATA Sky published a public notice to daily newspapers about removal of these channels.

Sahara One is Hindi GEC run by Sahara India Pariwar & Sahara Filmy is Hindi movie channel which is l owned by Sahara One Media and Entertainment Limited.

Ahsas TV is a Hindi-language, socio-cultural television channel, owned by DMR Media International & Insync is owned by Perfect Octave Media Projects and is a classical music channel.
