This is very good news for DD Free dish subscribers that Prasar Bharati recently invited tender to Indian local manufacturers for manufacturing iCAS enabled STBs for DD Free dish DTH.

Finally this tender has opened on 16/12/2016 and Prasar Bharati selected 5 STB OEMs.

Although Doordarshan and OEMs agreement yet to be process, it will be complete after 5 samples provided by manufacturers to Doordarshan Bharati. These STB will BIS test and certified.

Currently DD Freedish DTH is offering more than 80 TV and 24 Radio channels without any monthly subscription. These channels are available in mpeg-2 format. But now Doordarshan decided to go one step ahead for DD Freedish. Now in these new STBs will be with iCAS system with mpeg-4 technology which will provide you sharp audio and video.

In iCAS enabled STBs, Doordarshan Freedish will also carry EPG (electronics program guide) for all TV channels. But it could be bad news for those who are living in outside of country like Nepal, Pakistan, and Bhutan etc. They will not be able to watch these channels due to unavailability of set-top boxes in their countries.

As per term & condition guide of 33rd e-auction reserve price has set for non-news & current affairs channels is Rs.8.00 Crore, this is highest slot price in past e-auction records.

As per term & condition guide of 33rd e-auction, a Non-News & current affairs TV channels means a channel which does not have any element of News & current affairs in its programme content and are permitted by Ministry of information and Broadcasting.

The successful channel is required to arrange their own IRD box in advance to place their channel on DD Free Dish platform on time.

Government Moves To Block ABS Free Dish DTH Service Soon

As you know ABS satellite is broadcasting free-to-air TV channels from ABS2 satellite at 74.9 east position. ABS2 is broadcasting high numbers of regional TV channels then DD free dish.

Now Government of India has decided to block its signals in India because it is not applied for DTH license from MIB. Yes it is okay, ABS2 should apply for DTH license before distributing its signals and TV contents in India.

But now thousands of rural area household are using it because ABS satellite is broadcasting mainly regional TV channel from South and East India which is unavailable in DD Freedish dth.

Did you think why regional TV channels not participating in DD Freedish e-auction?? I think due its yearly subscription fees because regional TV channels are limited to state borders or on its local language. These TV channels are not earning too much as national channels so maybe they are not able to pay DD Free dish annual subscription; which is growing every year and in every e-auctions. Now its bidding price has been reached from 1 Crore to 8 Crore per annually.

And in other side lots of C-Band satellites coverage available in Indian beam and all are broadcasting many foreign TV channels.
In recent years Government has banned Madani Channel, Peace TV, Saudi TV, QTV, P TV, Geo TV because these channels are broadcasting hate speeches in Indian beams. Here banned means no any cable / DTH operators allow to distribute these channels over the cable network. But still lots of Indian families are watching these channels by using internet & C-Band dish antenna.
It was also not clear whether anyone found watching these channels using a C-Band dish antenna or internet could be prosecuted under Indian laws.

So I think blocking the signal of ABS2 signals across India, it may be difficult for DoS (Department of Space) as it would require very advanced technology. Government should find a middle way for extra option in FTA TV.

So if ABS2 satellite agrees to take license from MIB then it is better options for rural India because they may have options in FTA TV. At this time only public broadcaster DD Freedish are available for FTA broadcasting. But DD Freedish not has good numbers in regional TV channels.

so let’s see what happens but I think there should be an extra option for FTA TV channels for rural and poor families because if PAY TV have 6 DTH operators then why FTA TV only one ? And everybody knows that FTA TV (DTH) has lots of views then Pay TV (DTH).

Dish TV and Videocon d2h merger gets CCI approval

New Delhi: The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Wednesday approved the merger between Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd’s DTH platform Dish TV and Videocon d2h, the direct-to-home television arm of Videocon Industries Ltd.

The companies had announced their merger in November 2016. The new company will be called Dish TV Videocon Ltd. Dish TV will own 55% and Videocon 45% stake in the new company.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Dish TV said that the company has already received the approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), NSE and BSE Ltd for the proposed merger.

DD Freedish conducting its 35th online e-Auction today for non-news TV channels.

Doordarshan conducting its 35th online e-Auction today for filling up of Vacant slots of Non-News and current affairs category for India's free direct to home service "DD Freedish".

Doordarshan already set Rs.8.00 crores reserve price for all vacant slots. So interested TV channels will participate in this eauction which are permitted by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

This online e-auction will be held by M/s C1 India Pvt limited, gurugram as behalf of Doordarshan (Prasar Bharati).

Today was last date for submission of completed application on or before 25th May 2017 by 12:00 PM.

DD Freedish Coming Soon with new face (Latest Technology) in Next Two Years

In next two year DD Freedish going to enter in new era, because now DD Freedish will have its own set-top box with iCAS system. Now DD Freedish viewers will also enjoy EPG (Electronic Programming Guide) in iCAS enabled set-top box with smart card (viewing card).
At this time Prasar Bharati testing MPEG-4 Set-top box with iCAS system (Indian Conditional Access System). Although final trials of iCAS STBs already completed and samples already provided to manufacturers to produce DD Freedish MPEG-4 set-top boxes. A DD Freedish subscriber needs to insert viewing smart card in set-top box to avail channels and services. In these set-top boxes DD Freedish subscribers can upgrade their set-top box by OTA (Over the air), means direct from GSAT15 satellite.

In DD Freedish MPEG-4 set-top boxes there is no HDMI port, so maybe it is not HD supported so we are thinking what will be happen then?, if DD Freedish launch its DD HD channel on this platform, no idea. Also there is no USB recording facility as some source but USB port is available. So software may be upgraded later by DD Freedish (OTA).

But you don't worry; DD Free Dish will remain still free-to-air DTH service after implements of iCAS system with no monthly fees etc. The DD Freedish will be required to register their STB with the help of DD Freedish Toll Free no. after purchase of STB from authorized DD FD STB dealers.

DD Freedish has planned to increase its TV channels from 80 to 250 within two years. So it will be high jump because DD Free dish launched in 2004 with 33 TV channels so after 13 years TV channels increased to 80 TV channels only which was very slow progress in this area. Although Narendra Modi government already added about 40+ educational TV channels on DD Freedish under Swayam Prabha and Vande Guajarat within 3 years.

Zee 24 Kalak is regional news TV channel for Gujarat by Zee Media. Recently ZMCL received licenses for Zee 24 hour Business and Zee Bihar Jharkhand, where Zee Bihar Jharkhand renamed as Zee 24 Kalak and may be Zee 24 hour business change to Zee Urdu.

Star India already announced that Star Network going to launch India's first free-to-air private sport channel. At this time only one free-to-air sport channel available by Doordarshan, DD Sports.

The channel will be available on DD Free dish from tomorrow, 21st July 2017. DD Free dish subscriber can tune this channel on DD Free dish channel no.77
